Quality, Family Atmosphere, And A Really Good Burger Awaits You At Beckett’s Burger Bar

“Wow, that’s a great burger!” You’re right and you’re not alone in your opinion. For the second year in a row, Beckett’s Burger Bar was voted home to the best burger in Bowling Green in the Best of BG student voting.

“I have been in food service sales since I graduated from college,” George Strata says. “I have done sales for food service companies, on and off since I was 22, about 23 years now.”

First George and Amy and all four children worked or still work in Beckett’s, but the family operation grew in size when George’s parents George and Phina were added as owners in 2012.

“They’re always there to support what the business needs,” George Strata says. “They do a good job talking to customers, the social part of it. Saturday nights, they love coming up, it’s their night to watch the business.” George and his wife, Amy, are on site for the Friday evening crowds.

What he changed when he first purchased the restaurant in 2007 was how the place had been viewed and was operated.

“it was more a bar with food,” he says. “Now were more a restaurant with a bar, although I want to keep the bar atmosphere. We sell so much more food than we ever did and we do delivery and carryout.”

The growth of his food sales has powered the growth of Beckett’s over the past 12 years and that has been no mistake, but through careful and creative planning on what to offer. Five or six years ago the Stratas changed the restaurant to the burger bar concept with a menu featuring several gourmet burgers or the ability of customers to “build their own.” Coupled with some very popular appetizers and several weekly specials, Beckett’s has become a popular destination for a growing customer base.

“I think you can expect great food, great service, (and) expect to leave full,” George says. “We have great portion sizes. We have fair pricing with specials every day that are great for people’s wallets,” including 50-cent tacos on Tuesday, 35-cent wings on Sunday, and a half-rack of ribs for $7.50 on Wednesday. The prime rib, though not considered a special, is very reasonably priced on Friday nights.

“(We will) try to get a nice vegan-style burger that eats like a real burger,” George says. “Not a like a veggie patty. We’ll see how that works.”
