Trotters Tavern:

Trotters Tavern Offers Its Famous “Brown Jug Steak” in a Warm, Inviting Atmosphere

Located in the heart of downtown Bowling Green at 119 N. Main St. is Trotters Tavern. Trotters is best recognized for its warm, old-fashioned atmosphere where there will always be a familiar face, says co-owner Paula Williams.

Trotters is known for its “Brown Jug Steak,” which is a baseball cut sirloin simmered in special sauce.

Customers also continue to be surprised by the sandwiches and the extensive salad menu, added Williams.

There are other signature menu items Trotters has to offer aside from their prominent steak entrée. They also have a Brown Jug Chicken, Parmesan Chicken,  Grilled Salmon, Spicy Tiger Shrimp dinners, and more.

“Many of our menu items include a special sauce or ingredient that we don’t share with the public,” said Williams. The steak house also specializes in their drink menu, consisting of a list of martinis, cocktails, coffee drinks and more. They only serve what they consider the best available craft beer as well as providing an all-encompassing wine list that will meet the tastes of any palette.

Trotters accepts reservations as well as walk-in dining. Williams said they also love to accommodate large parties. They have also accommodated engagement parties, company Christmas parties, alumni get-togethers, anniversaries, birthdays and many other events with 25 or more guests.

Owners Jay and Paula Williams took over the BG steak house three years ago when they saw the restaurant was for sale through a Facebook advertisement. They are no amateurs when it comes to the restaurant business. Williams added that they also own Quarter’s Bar & Grill located in Perrysburg. In addition to both their businesses, Paula is a teacher for Bowling Green city schools.

“When Trotters was for sale, we were interested because we loved the quaint atmosphere and small-town feel,” said Williams. “We wanted to make sure that a Bowling Green tradition did not get lost.”

After the married couple bought Trotters, there were only minor repairs to be done to the bar and restaurant. Williams said, “We changed some areas of production, updated equipment, added a service station and restored the hard wood floors in the dining room.”

As for the future of Trotters Tavern, “we plan to extend the menu, offering a few new seasonal specials,” said Williams. “ This summer we will be doing some kitchen remodeling and a few dining room updates.” Williams loves the community she lives and works in, saying, “It is truly one of the best places you can call home.”
